Newconsumer.tv landed in Swaffham, Norfolk, to climb the UK’s only wind turbine open to the public.

Last week, the EU committed Europe to producing 20 per cent of its energy from renewables by 2020.

In the UK, that mostly means wind power, which – contrary to some reports – is being greeted with open arms in parts of the country. One of the nation’s wind-lovers is the tiny Norfolk town of Swaffham, which is already home to two major turbines and has just received a planning application for another six.

I guess I need to …
I guess I need to jump into some serious reading on the merits of turbines. Seems the responses I read tend toward one of two clear-cut ’sides’ – either “These are a great idea, you do your research and you’ll see I’m right!” or “These are complete bunk, you do your research and you’ll see I’m right!”. Gives the impression that research is out there but tends toward two completely opposite results. I can only ume both sides complain that the other is biased, or is skewing things somehow.

Absolute . …
Absolute . These things would not exist if it weren’t for massive subsidies paid for by an increasingly gullible public. It looks lovely doesn’t it, but in reality has no use whatsoever. If you are interested, check out how national grid systems work and how WTs such as this cannot influence it any way apart from making it less efficient and more expensive to the consumer…and c02 savings? about the same as keeping a bottle of coke closed.

great film! show’s …
great film! show’s how quiet it is, even right next to the hub. I’ve done some little comedy films about the anti-wind movement. Check ‘em out.

How about the …
How about the mercury from the coal in your lakes? Yes I know Bovina people don’t eat fish, just the now expensive beef while driving their SUVs fueled with food product. The rich folks don’t like their pretty places messed up by saving the planet. Angelica is where part of New York dumps their garbage and the dump operator Casella does not contain it. “Documented” search youtube “casella nysdec”.

the whole purpose …
the whole purpose of the wind turbines is to get the pollution out of the air and in doing so you make a healthy enviroment for all species including humans. who cares if a few birds are killed in the proses.

I’m sure they’ll feel much better with with a coal plant out of sight, out of mind.

Good luck with your campaign…

I have spent much …
I have spent much time in Bovina, at Suits-Us farm. Beautiful rolling hills, farms – I suspect that the area feels (rightfully) that they do not create as much global warming as large towns and cities, and need not switch to alternatives – that is a guess. Perhaps, WindIsNotGreen, you could tell us the reasons (pro and con) for the decision. Thanks.

Yes to “yes to wind …
Yes to “yes to wind”. A slight whooshing that replaces greenhouse gases or maybe nuclear power? Does anyone have doubts? I guess so… they do have doubts for now. But not for long, I hope. One area not mentioned: do the blades at that speed still pose a risk for birds?

The Bovina Town …
The Bovina Town Board banned wind turbines from this scenic Catskill town. Bovina is the first town in the Catskills to take a clear position against industrial wind development. The Bovina vote follows a twelve-month moratorium during which residents made their views known to town officials through open meetings sponsored by the board, hundreds of letters, a town survey, a petition, and a poll sponsored by industrial wind opponents. The vote was three in favor of a ban, one opposed.
