I need to cut my electric bill badly.Do household inverters consume a lot of electricity while being charged continously?
Inverters are like generators. They charge when there is regular power supply. In case there is a power failure, it works just like a generator and supplies electricity for the entire house. My question was, if they consume a lot of power to charge up.Thanks
I think you mean UPS, Uninterruptible Power Supply. An inverter is part of a UPS, but only a part.
Inverters don't have batteries, don't charge, don't work where there is a power failure. All they do is convert 12v (or 24v) DC to 120 vAC.
Use of a UPS will only increase your electric usage, it can't possibly cut it. There is always a net loss when using a UPS. You use say 1000 watt-hours to charge it and you get out 800 watt-hours.
And in the standby mode they also use power, perhaps 10%, so if you draw out 1000 watts, they consume 1100 watts.
A UPS to run your entire house would be large and expensive. And don't forget you need to replace the batteries every year or so.
