Is there any big difference between energy used operating a laptop computer as opposed to a 24 inch LCD HDTV? I’m trying to cut down my electric bill. In my small space TV and movies on my laptop are just fine. I use AC power. Desperate question, I know, but times are tough.
You can run a laptop for a couple of cents an hour. As the others have mentioned, doubtful this is your problem. If you have electric heat, that is likely the issue. Try turning your heat down 5-10 degrees, and see if that doesn’t help.

Your laptop is not a problem.
Most the energy usage is A/C in the summer. Heat or gas in the winter. Laptop is just a drop of a bucket.

First thing look at your bill A large part of it is for Services Delivered. That remains a set amount even if you never use any power. Next is the cost of actual use. Turn off lights when not in a room, unplug appliances. Big energy users are the Fridge, electric stove. I doubt your TV and Laptop are the culprits
