I want to know the prices to fully power a Normal sized Home.

And smaller sized Wind Power.

Hey Kim, I’ll take a stab at your question. Bill is probably pretty close to the bullseye here, but your question is really more nebulous than you think. If I asked you, "How much gas does a car need?" What would be your answer? 200 gallons? You might ask me how many miles I drive, or what size car I need, or your answer might be a rate, like 1 gallon for every 30 miles I drive. You really can’t quantify it beyond that.

Our home used to be like most other homes, it is small, at 1200 square feet, but used around 30 to 40 dollars a month in electricity. Since then we have installed a 900 watt wind turbine and a 1.4 kw solar array. Now my electric bills are around $5 per month. The rates have gone up in the last 10 years, and we have made efficiency improvements along the way. Since then we have had two children, so our usage has been a roller coaster all these years. What I’m getting at is that there is no, "Normal sized house." Here is an interesting rule of thumb I heard in our travels in renewable energy. Take your monthly electric bill and multiply it by 250. This might be the cost to install a wind and solar system to make about the same electricity you use today. If your bill is $50 per month like ours used to be, you’ll need about $12,500 in equipment. Oddly enough, by doing some of the work ourselves 11 years ago, our total bill was just over $13,000. If you pay $200 per month for electricity, then you’ll need $50,000 for your system.

You can also work the problem backward pretty easily, and see that if it takes the equivalent of 250 months in electric bills to pay off your equipment, then the payback time is probably 20 years, give or take a bit. In a nutshell, it isn’t worth the trouble for most people to make a change to their home, or their lifestyles, since you’d be farther ahead financially by investing your money someplace and having it double in 20 years instead of breaking even, but I suppose that depends on how you feel about the stock market. There is the fact that our home has not been without power for even one minute the last 11 years now, not sure how much that is worth to you. There is also the environmental benefits of solar and wind power, which for some reason have become quite controversial. Buying coal for the purpose of lighting it on fire to make electricity makes about as much sense as smoking a cigarette for taste, still, millions of educated people smoke.

There are some pretty good places to get more information on the subject, I’ll list some below. One thing I’ve learned over the years in this business, is that there are two things in vast supply in wind energy, wind, and missinformation. If you’re really trying to make a decision on this, I’d check out the sources below and forget asking hacks like us online for advice. In the end you might decide not to get involved, and that’s fine, but at least you will be well informed. Take care Kim, Rudydoo

Concidering wind power. Does the kit come complete? And will the investment pay off?

More than you would get back in 30 years. Sorry.

Hey, i have 2 kids and im a single parent. I have just finished building my own 4 bedroom home. I just got the first power bill and it was $600 for the first month. I am just wondering how much the $3000-$6000 wind turbines will cut down on my power bill per month. I live up on a hill on acerage and its quite windy. I want one of these instead of a solar panel because at night it will not work, as the wind turbine will. If you could put a link to a picture of the 3000-$6000 dollar wind turbine i would appreciate it.
1) How much will it cut down on my power bill if i have one turbine?
2) Please post a picture of it.
Thanks guys. I really need it.

I’ve been following alternate energy for several years, and re wind power, it seems as though you need to live in an area where the AVERAGE wind speed is approximately 13 mph in order to guarantee yourself uninterrupted power from the entire system you install. If you don’t fall into this category, re-think the wind power solution, and consider others which will give you more return on your investment.

Hi fellows,

I’ve been seeing some projects for DIY home turbines and produce my own power. Do you think this plans are worth it? I mean, will this produce enough power to maintain at least my TV and Computer?

I’ve found this website and I’m thinking of buying it http://www.renewableenergysourceonline.com/wind-power/home-wind-turbines

wind turbine is a great product, i have that also and i can use my tv computer at the same time and also some lights and heater..most of my appliance actually, check this out, windpowercost.org

A wind power mill at home ?

Archived in the category: wind power home

A wind power mill at home?, is it difficult to install by oneself, and how does it cost? Thanks for the advices. Any url to help ?

As a rule of thumb you need a land size of at least one acre to install the high wind turbine tower. In the city (or a suburban area) you may opt for a very small roof mounted generator and there are obstacles such as neighbors’ objection, noise coupling to your home, storms and required permits

I’m not looking forward to paying my electricity bill, especially because I almost always have my computer on doing something intensive. I know it’s possible, but how difficult is it to get some solar panels or a small wind turbine and somehow use it to generate electricity?

it’s not really possible.
you really cannot put the stuff outside your window.
and there’s some really expensive equipment that’s needed to make 110ac out of the energy you do generate.
and, you do want that stuff so your computer works at night, when there’s no wind.

however, get yourself a Kilowatt meter.
you’ll find that your system does not use as much power as you think.

put some insulation on your windows (clear plastic) and you’ll likely save far more energy.

Edit: Free Magnetic Energy doesn’t work. Consider, if it did, wouldn’t the utilities be using it, instead of burning all that expensive coal and oil and natural gas. It doesn’t work, no matter how much you pay for the plans.

Cold fusion doesn’t work. Hydrogen fusion is being worked on in several locations, including:

What are the drawbacks to using wind turbines or solar panels for providing all power to a home?

A. The wind and sun are not constant, so there would be times when no electricity would be generated.
B. The wind and sun are constant, so there would be plenty of electricity for the home.
C. Wind and solar power are inefficient and too expensive to use and maintain.
D. Wind and solar power are efficient, but they are not able to produce enough electricity for a single home.

again trying to help..again thnx 4 the previous………
nothing else…………but A.
NO COMMENTS ON THE OTHER OPTIONS….
except these there is another drawback…….its when your brother breaks the solar panel after quarrel with you……then no electricity will b produced………….hope this funny answer u liked……..its just to make yahhooooooooooo answer FUNNNNN…………

Treadmills are often used in the home to save time and avoid the expense of going to a gym. You can easily read a book or watch over the kids while you work out on your home treadmill. Basic treadmill models can start at $100 and can go up to $5000.

Always choose a belt width that’s at least of 16 ” ands long enough to accommodate your stride. Treadmill cushioning absorbs the force of your step; get good cushioning to lower the impact on your joints and ligaments. Some treadmills fold up for easy storage which makes them an ideal choice for those with limited space in a small apartment, small house or condo.

One feature that is absolutely necessary in a home treadmill is an emergency stop button or a safety key that automatically shuts off the power if you should stumble, trip or fall. Features such as extra cup holders, built-in fans, CD players and other electronic gizmos may be handy but not essential for you to get an ideal workout. Notice that some treadmill heart rate monitors clip onto an ear or, for more accurate readings, strap onto the chest.

Some treadmills monitor your heart by way of sensors built into the frame that are gripped by your hands, but can only be done if you’re walking not running. Less expensive treadmill models require you to manually change the incline, which can be very frustrating if you want to make adjustments midway through a workout session.

A heart rate monitor enables a treadmill to automatically adjust the speed and/or the incline to keep your heart rate within the most optimum zone. The console indicates the belt speed and other factors, such as heart rate, miles per hour, and distance. People, who don’t have enough room for a bulky exercise machine, may want to consider a folding treadmill; they collapse to allow for easy storage.

You’ll probably want to buy a unit with a motor that delivers 1.5 to 3 continuous, not peak, horsepower. When your equipment is up and running, get the right lubricants and cleaners to take good care of it. You’ll want a treadmill with an aluminum or high alloy steel frame that’s strong enough to support the heaviest runner who’ll be using it.

Probably the most important thing to look for in a treadmill is to see how sturdy it is. Before buying, make sure the deck area provides enough space for you to exercise in comfort and the belt should work smoothly without slipping or sticking. Commercial club treadmills are reliable and well constructed; do look into a home version.

If there’s a treadmill you’ve enjoyed using regularly at your local gym or fitness center check to see if there’s a home version available in your price range. Buying a treadmill online has become the way to go for most people; it’ll save you both time and a lot of money. Your club commercial machine may be may be a good choice in a home version; you’re already familiar with its features and probably are comfortable using it.

When planning your purchase always take into account any other members of your family, or roommates, who’ll be using your treadmill. Once you’ve decided on the treadmill that you think is right for you, make sure to compare prices online with several different manufacturers.

Any treadmill with a belt that causes jerky movements while you walk or run should be avoided. Did I mention to make sure to check out the warranty fine print, this is very important.

Be careful, because any type of jogging or running, whether on a treadmill or not, puts strain on leg and hip joints. If you have severe problems with your legs, a treadmill may not be the best choice of home exercise equipment for you.

Selections of preprogrammed exercise routines are not essential to obtaining a good workout from a treadmill, but they do help to provide motivation. The lack of wind resistance makes running on a treadmill slightly easier than it would otherwise be on an equal elevation grade outdoors.

Spend some time shopping around, work out exactly what you need, and then shop online and offline so you can compare for the best price. Read the various treadmill ratings and treadmill reviews that you find online so you have an idea which models are best for you. By following the above tips you’re sure to find the best treadmill for you.
