I am comparing the costs of generating electricity from crude oil and natural gas.
I would like to know:
1. How much natural gas is required to generate 1 KW of electricity?
2. How much crude oil is required to generate 1 KW of electricity?
My government just increased the electricity bills by 21% citing increasing oil futures prices as the justification to do that. However, Singapore generated about 80% of its electricity from natural gas and not crude oil! I think this is a rip off.
Unfortunately it’s not as simple as X litres of crude oil equals Y kilowatts of energy. It depends entirely on the process in which the energy is extracted, which includes refinement, the efficiency of the turbine, the efficiency of the burning process and the efficiency of the heat transfer.
You may be able to get this information by contacting your local power supplier however they may be slightly guarded but it would be worth a try.
The rising crude oil prices are not the only cause for energy price hikes, with recently introduced emission standards/taxes a possible reason also.
I have a 1750 square foot tudor cottage built in 1928 located in Fort Worth, Texas.
Do it because it makes you feel good, but not to save money: It takes 5 to 10 years to amortize and you must maintain it. Give it another 5 years to get more mature and affordable.I’ll be happy to give you some ideas, but make sure you are really into the concept first.
it usually has to do with offshore drilling or the oil in the middle east…why isn’t this technology being developed more?
This stuff requires more research. At this time it is expensive and nobody is interested in funding it… Solar panels seem ideal, but they are expensive and when you think about the amount of time it will take to earn back the amount spend on the solar panel it is never worth it…
Sure, indeviduals can care about the environment and place a solar panel on their roof, but that’s where it ends.
New companies try to incorporate solar power in their new buildings…
Another problem is the government doesn’t really offer any incentives or grants for these projects.
Go yell at them!
I say if it’s over 80 degrees, turn it on. Otherwise, get by with fans and save money on the electric bill. How about you? How hot do you need to be before you give in and turn it on?
I ususally say Uncle Bill around 80 too, but really it is more dependent on if it interferes with my sleep. If it is NOT humid and breezy, I can go higher.
Compare The Meerkat (comparethemeerkat.com) advert which advertises the price-comparison website, Compare The Market (comparethemarket.com).
This is the new shorten advert!
Compare The Market.com compares prices on a number of items including car insurance, home insurance, as well as credit cards, loans and mortgages.
It aims to give you the cheapest quote from a number of big companies, including the AA, the Post Office and HSBC.
The reason for this advert is the constant mis-spelling of Compare The Market, with users inputting Compare The Meerkat instead.
The advert features a russian meerkat called Alexsandr (somtimes spelt as Alexander) who is the founder of Compare The Meerkat. He complains about the number of cheaper car insurance requests and plays the jingles for both of them.
On his website, you can compare meerkats by size, their favourite hobbies and their location.
Certainly one of the best advertising campaigns in recent time. But remember, if you want cheap car insurance, it’s CompareTheMarket.com.

Low Cost Homemade Solar Panels - Your Home Energy Solution on a Shoestring!
Many homeowners would love to be able to install their own low cost homemade solar panels and cut down on their monthly electricity bills. Wouldn’t you? A growing number of people have already done just that and they are proof that this is a simple and effective method of saving money.
Things to Consider when Installing A Home Solar Power System
If you want to harness the sun’s power, it is best if your home faces south. A roof that faces south and receives direct and unobstructed sunlight would be the ideal place to install your solar panels. If this is not feasible for some reason, however, you can always install them in a part of your backyard that receives direct sunlight as well.
There are ready-made solar panel kits for sale on the market. But typically costing $3000 or more these kits are often beyond the budget of most homeowners, especially with the current state of the economy.
A far less expensive way to harness free energy from the sun is to build your own low cost solar power system. You will find a great number of instructional guides online that will walk you through the entire process. Even if you have never attempted any DIY projects before, you are sure to find these instructions easy to understand and follow. Within a few days, you should have your own homemade solar power system operational.
The best thing about building your own solar panels is that it costs so little. You simply need to spend some time searching for the best prices on materials, and the entire project should cost less than $200.
Another excellent thing about creating your own home solar energy system that you decide how large or small you wish your system to be. If you want, you could build more solar panels and make your home entirely independent of the regular electrical grid. If you generate excess electricity, you might even be able to sell it to your local power company!
Building low cost homemade solar panels is cheap and easy… and a great way to go green and save on your monthly electrical bills without the need for a huge initial investment!
Want to build your own homemade solar panels but don’t know where to start?
Fret not! Many people just like you have successfully built these on their own to DRASTICALLY cut their monthly electricity consumption. They are already shaving $1000s off their energy bills every year. If you need STEP-BY-STEP guidance in installing one, I have reviewed the Best Online Guides on Homemade Solar Panels for your convenience. These highly recommended guides provide EASY-TO-FOLLOW instructions that will help you save money in no time.

MAKE CHEAP SOLAR PANEL in 1 hour
Make solar panels:
The fact is that most people don’t know about the benefits of generating renewable energy themselves. They also don’t know how easy it is to do this.
They just pay $1,000s a year in electricity without having a clue that there is a much better way…
The Easiest, Cheapest Way
To Generate Renewable Energy
There are many solutions to produce renewable energy.
However, most of the products are not designed to produce the electricity needed for home supply. They cost fortunes and are only usable in the corporate world.
Some companies have developed products for generating home wind power or solar power, but they cost $1,000s for only one product. And this doesn’t even include installation.
Luckily this is where we come in. HomeMadeEnergy.org will teach you everything you need to have your own solar or wind power system for $200 or even less.
I’ve made countless tests to make sure that these are the most effective methods for producing heaps of energy.
And once I had these plans, I wrote them out professionaly for the “average Joe”, with plain English words. Anyone can understand and use them. (Even a 15-year old kid!).
And before releasing them in a guide, I’ve given them to many test subjects to see if all of them can succeed in generating enough electricity to power their home. How Would You Like To UNPLUG Your
House From Your Electrical Company,

By Nature” With Renewable Energy.

New Home Wind Turbine Design Good for Environment
Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. More and more, wind power mills are seen in the countryside, in large wind farms and for the most part, away from city life. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates.
